This concert is in cooperation with Berkley First & the Berkley Public Library and is supported by the Knight Foundation. It is a workshop concert, where we will rehearse with two students - Benny Rubin Jr on alto sax & Tariq Gardner on drums - and then perform a concert, which is free, open to the public & all ages. Benny is currently at the Detroit School of the Arts and has been accepted at a number of prestigious schools and Tariq is a Jazz Studies major at the University of Michigan. Both are busy playing on the local scene.

Another aspect is that this concert is also a warm-up for our annual Spring event: The Kings of Kansas City Swing: Bennie Moten & Count Basie, Live at the Scarab Club. We will do an all KC set, some tunes that will NOT be performed at the Scarab Club concert and some that will, but all songs will have their roots in KC jazz. A one-hour mini preview.
